Long story short, in the late 1930s a Russian doctor named Sergei Bryukhonenko spent a great deal of time experimenting with the resuscitation of clinically dead tissues, organs, and organisms.  The success of some of these experiments was released in the 1940 film Experiments in the Revival of Organisms, which is available at the Internet Archive.
